When something goes wrong

Quick answers for when something doesn't look right.

I can't find a document

Click Search in the left column (or press Ctrl+ K) and type a word from the title, or a word you know is in the document. Search looks at titles, the text of your pages and the cells of your sheets.

Still nothing? A few places to look:

  • It might be in a folder. Search finds things inside folders too.
  • Someone else might have made it. Things people share with you are under Shared With Me in the left column. If they stop sharing it, it disappears from there.
  • You might have made it on your phone without an account. Then it lives only on that phone. See My documents aren't on my other devices.

I deleted something by mistake

cDox has no trash: a deleted document is gone for good, and it can't be brought back inside cDox. That's why cDox always asks you to confirm before deleting anything.

For documents that matter, keeping a copy now and then is a good idea. You can download a page as Word or PDF, or select several documents and download them all at once. See Bringing files in and out.

I lost my internet connection

When your connection drops, a red You're offline bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

  • Keep the page open. cDox keeps trying to save, and your changes are kept as soon as you're back online. The red bar then goes away.
  • Try not to close the tab while the bar is showing. If you do, your browser warns you that some changes aren't saved yet.
Note

The phone apps work a little differently. See The apps.

I didn't get an email

Give it a few minutes, then check your junk or spam folder. If it isn't there:

  • To confirm your address after signing up, use Resend email on the page that asks you to check your email.
  • For a forgotten password, ask again with Forgot your password? on the sign-in page.
  • For an invitation to a document or folder, ask the person to invite you again. Invitations expire after 7 days.
  • For an email change, the link works for one hour. Send it again from My Account.

I forgot my password

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot your password?
  2. Enter the email address of your account.
  3. Open the email we send you and click the link.
  4. Choose a new password.

My documents aren't on my other devices

If you use the iPhone, iPad or Android app without an account, your documents are kept only on that phone or tablet. They aren't on the web or on your other devices.

To have them everywhere, create a free account (or sign in) from the app's menu. Everything on the device moves into your account. See The apps.

Spelling marks words that are right

First check which language is picked: open My Account and look at the Language in the Spelling section. In English (US), colour and centre are underlined. In English (Canada) or English (UK), they're correct.

For a name or a specialized word, right-click it and choose Add to dictionary. See Writing in pages.

On a phone, a tablet or in the apps, your device does the underlining. If correct words are underlined there, add the right language in the device's language settings.

Something looks wrong or won't load

  • Reload the page. Use your browser's reload button, or press Ctrl+ R. This fixes most problems, especially right after cDox has been updated.
  • Check your connection by opening another website.
  • In the desktop app, quit it completely and open it again.
