Organizing

Folders, moving things around, and finding them again.

The dashboard

The dashboard is the list of everything you have. Folders sit at the top, your pages and sheets below them. Click a folder to open it, click a document to edit it.

The breadcrumb along the top shows where you are and takes you back. Everything you own lives somewhere in this tree, including the things other people have shared with you.

Folders

Make a folder with the + button, then New folder. It is created wherever you currently are, so open the parent folder first if you want to nest it.

Folders nest up to five levels deep. At the fifth level the option to create a subfolder inside it goes away.

A folder holds pages and sheets together. There are no separate folders per type.

Naming and moving

To rename a page or a sheet, click its title in the editor header. The title is what shows up in your dashboard and when you share the document.

To move a document, right-click it (or use the menu at the end of its row) and choose Move, then pick the folder it should go to.

Tip

Moving a document into a shared folder makes it visible to everyone in that folder. cDox warns you before it happens.

Working with several at once

You can select several documents at once to download or delete them together. Turn selection on from the dashboard menu, then tick the documents you want.

Moving is one document at a time, not a batch action.

Tip

Esc leaves selection mode.

Sorting

Click Name, Size or Modified at the top of the list to sort by it. Click again to reverse the order. Folders always stay above documents, so sorting happens within each group rather than across both.

Finding things

When the list gets long, stop scrolling it and search instead. Search in the left column, or Ctrl+ K from anywhere in the app, opens a box over whatever you were looking at.

It looks at titles, at the contents of your pages, and right down into the cells of your sheets: a sheet result tells you which tab and which cell the text is in. Folders turn up too. Arrow keys move through the list, Enter opens, Escape closes.

Tip

Search ignores accents and capitals, so resume finds résumé. It matches inside words too, so udget finds budget. And it only ever shows what you have access to, including folders shared with you.

Right-click menus

On desktop, right-clicking a folder or a document opens its actions: open, rename, move, share, download, delete. Right-clicking an empty part of the dashboard offers to create something instead.

Using the keyboard

The list can be driven entirely from the keyboard. Press Tab until a row is highlighted. The whole list is a single tab stop no matter how many documents are in it, so you never have to tab through them one by one.
