The apps
Use cDox in your browser, or install it on your phone or computer.
Browser or app
You can use cDox right in your web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge) on any computer, tablet or phone. There's nothing to install: go to cdox.studio and log in.
You can also install an app, if you'd rather:
- iPhone and iPad, from the App Store
- Android, from Google Play
- Mac, Windows and Linux, from our download page
With an account, your documents are the same everywhere: what you write on your phone is waiting for you on your computer.
The phone apps are for cDox on the go
The iPhone, iPad and Android apps are made for writing and sharing on the go: jotting notes, reading over a draft, fixing a number in a sheet, sending a link. They don't have everything cDox does, and that's on purpose. Some things just don't work well on a small touch screen.
For all of cDox, use your web browser or the desktop app. That's where you'll find:
- bringing files in (Word, Excel, CSV, Markdown) and downloading your documents as files;
- printing;
- selecting several documents to move, download or delete at once;
- the full toolbar (on a phone it keeps to the essentials);
- keyboard shortcuts and right-click menus.
With an account you can switch between them without losing anything: start on your phone, finish on your computer.
iPhone and iPad
Get the cDox app from the App Store:
Rather not install anything? You can put cDox on your home screen, like an app, from Safari:
- Open cdox.studio in Safari and log in.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
A cDox icon appears on your home screen. Tap it to open cDox straight away.
The app needs iOS 26 or later. On an older iPhone or iPad, use the home-screen icon described above instead.
Android
Get the cDox app from Google Play:
It works on Android 8.0 or later.
On your computer
There's a cDox app for Mac, Windows and Linux. Download it, open it and log in with your cDox account. All your documents are there.
The desktop app works with your account online, so it needs an internet connection.
On a Mac, the app needs Apple silicon (M1 or later). On Windows, a SmartScreen warning may appear the first time because the app isn't signed yet: choose "More info", then "Run anyway". On Linux, there's an AppImage for any distribution and a .deb for Ubuntu and Debian.
Using the phone app without an account
You can use the iPhone, iPad or Android app without making an account. Open it and start writing.
Without an account, your documents are kept on that phone only. They aren't online, and you won't see them on your computer or your other devices. If you lose the phone or delete the app, your documents go with it, because the phone has the only copy.
To keep them safe, create a free account (or log in) from the app's menu. Everything on the phone moves into your account, and you'll find it everywhere you use cDox.
Not sure whether you're using an account in the app? Open the menu: if it offers to sign up or log in, your documents are on that phone only.
When you're offline
Without an internet connection, a red "You're offline" banner appears at the top of the app.
- A document that's already open stays open if the connection drops.
- With an account, your list of documents stays on screen, and they open as soon as you're back online.
- Without an account, you can read your documents but not change them. You can still rename, move, duplicate or delete them.
When you're offline, the + button goes away: creating a document needs a connection. The phone apps are made for writing and sharing on the go. Downloading files and selecting several documents at once happen on the web and on a computer. Sharing, collaborators, comments and images need an account.
